Beyond All Dreams Elizabeth Camden 9780764211751 Books

There is a great line in this book where the hero tells the heroine, "I want you by my side whether we are walking into stormy days or sunny skies." This certainly sums up what Luke and Anna go through in the course of this book. They both deal with glorious triumph and wrenching despair before the book is over, but it all comes out well in the end.

Luke is a congressman, and Anna is a librarian. It is an opposites attract love story. What makes it so different is that Luke and Anna have a great time sparring together with intelligence and respect. No one does great romantic banter the way Elizabeth Camden does, and it makes this book a joy to read. The chemistry leaps off the page. There is also a really great mystery in this book. I was dying to know what happened to that ship, and certainly didn't see this one coming. Also, I learned a lot of historical things that I didn't know before. Two thumbs up!

Beyond All Dreams Elizabeth Camden 9780764211751 Books Reviews

. The story is based on historical facts of the Spanish-American war, some of the events were not familiar to me, so I also got a learning experience from actual history. The setting is Washington, D.C. in the late 1800’s. The two main characters are Anna O’Brien a Librarian for the Library of Congress and Luke Callahan, a Congressman from the state of Maine. The story is well written, with many twists that held my interest throughout the story. The characters are well developed and very interesting. The romance is sweet and clean and the theme of forgiveness plays out in the lives of numerous characters. I really enjoyed this book and always expect to have a positive experience with this talented author, who is one of my favorites.
Anna O'Brien is content to spend her days pouring over maps; she is a librarian in the prestigious Library of Congress and feels she is honoring her father's memory; he was a Navy scientist and cartographer who spent years mapping the ocean floor; until his ship sank during a hurricane. Or did it? When Anna discovers an error in the fifteen year old report, she is incensed when the Navy not only refuses to correct the mistake, but threatens her job if she continues to pursue the matter.

When Anna meets Luke Callahan, the dashing young senator from Maine, she dares to seek his support in discovering what really happened to the USS Culpepper. Luke is instantly enamored with the lovely librarian with the sultry voice and engages her to work directly with him in order to fuel his political vendettas. Luke is handsome, impulsive, confident and silver-tongued; all the things that Anna is not. So she is shocked when the senator voices his infatuation and is cautious to encourage a relationship that could have grave consequences for both of them.

Anna and Luke are both flawed characters, but their personal struggles to become who they are really meant to be, are what make this story so amazing. Filled with history, mystery and tender romance, Elizabeth Camden has written another extraordinary story.
1898 Anna O’Brien, a shy librarian in the Library of Congress, crosses paths with outgoing Congressman Luke Callahan. Together they discover the truth behind her fathers, wade through the politics of impending war and find forbidden love.

I forgot how much I love Elizabeth Camden!! Her books are more than the sappy romance I usually read. All I wanted to do was read. There is history. And politics, in this one. I learned things!

I kind of forget about the American war with Spain, but this book reminded me of it. How it all began. The politics involved in the start of the war. Really quite interesting.

And the romance seemed more realistic than most books. Yes, it was kind of love at first sight, but these 2 were so opposite that it took a while for the romance and love to grow and become real.

Yep, really liked this book.
A moment ago I finished reading 'Beyond All Dreams'. I am still smiling from the joy I feel in my heart and grateful I decided to buy this book. Whatever words I can muster about the depth's of Elizabeth Camden's talent as a writer will never seem enough.

I had never read any of her works but the cover of the book and short description of its plot called out to me, and I took a chance. It led me on an immensely engaging and interesting journey. Historical novels are aplenty but this one is above and beyond most romances I have read. As a bonus, it is a 'clean' love story, which is important to me and very rare to find with such level of quality.

Luke and Anna's relationship develops in a realistic way and their personalities are well defined. Theirs is a tale of how two people can meet and be intrigued about each other, feeling that first flush of physical attraction but putting it in the back burner in favor of their interest in how the other one's mind works; of their demeanor. I do not want to give away spoilers. Let's just say our protagonists are presented to us without the usual clichés.

Kudos to Ms. Camden for taking the time to do her research and stick to historically accurate descriptions of the time period. I also appreciate how she presented us with a number of well-developed secondary characters whose actions are crucial to the plot.

To each his or her own, but I'd rather spend my time delighting in a love story based on attraction + common sense, one that presents its protagonists with all their virtues and faults, rather than read about a superficial 'everyone is hot and has mind-blowing sex soon and frequently' novel where every man is a gorgeous dashing hero and the ladies are either feisty maidens who must be dominated or beautiful airheads. Please!

Do yourself a favor buy this novel and read it. Whether you are a realist, a romantic, or both - as long as you believe in love, you'll be glad you took the time to meet these characters. I'm sure that, like me, you'll get ready to delve into another one of her novels as soon as possible.
