Trish is non-stop funny. You can't take a vacation on any sentence because you're bound to miss a laugh line. The dialogue is crisp, witty, insightful, and natural. She decorates the dialogue with just the right amount of description to paint a scene without boring you with unnecessary details. Despite the fact that so many characters are involved, you get enough of each of almost all of them to feel like you know them. I may never forget a couple of them. She actually includes physical comedy in a book, a minor miracle. The leg wax scene will (pardon the pun) stick with me for a long time. She sprinkles faith building scenes in throughout the book with great taste and timing.
Just like a great gymnastics routine, no matter how good the performance, the gymnast has to stick the landing. Trish does that with the power of Mary Lou Retton and the grace of Nadia Comaneci and Olga Korbut. Even the Romanian judge would give this one a five. You can take those 1 star and 2 star reviews with a grain of salt (no make it a whole salt shaker).

The Guy I'm Not Dating Trish Perry 9780736918725 Books Reviews

Trish Perry writes funny Christian books. You'll enjoy them!
Parts of the story were cute, but it was so heavy-handed. The religious aspect was hammered constantly at the reader in overwhelmingly obvious "coincidences", and the parables were obnoxious. There were tiny sub-plots inserted to make a point and then just forgotten once that momentary point was made, leaving me wondering about the resolutions to THOSE issues. The author seemed sure that the reader would forget how attractive the characters were supposed to be, since she reminded us of that constantly in great detail. And supporting characters were brought to life, then just abandoned so we had no idea what happened to them. I wish the author had spent more time completing the story, and less time aggressively making her points about religion - it would have made ALL aspects more appealing. I wish I hadn't bought this book.
A great debut novel from Trish Perry. Kara is a personal trainer who has sworn off 'dating' after a hard break up. Of course who should then enter he life but Mister Tall Dark and Handsome. What to do? Sounds very cliched but the supporting characters - especially the great Aunt - make this a fun and enjoyable read. Have to admit the convenient 'conversion' scene was a wee bit convenient for me but not as bad as some I've read.
This is a laugh out loud book. When the lady saw the new and handsome cafe
owner, she hollered "Yowza!" Of course, she was embarrased at doing that
vocally. Having made a vow not to date until she thought God was making the
decisions, she was in a bind. Wanting to date this guy, but not sure it was
God's plan. The story goes on with them "not dating," but going on a trip
and the trip included a woman very very interested in the guy. this is the
2nd Trish Perry book I have read and both were good.
I'm a seventeen year old who thoroughly enjoyed THE GUY I'M NOT DATING.

When I read it, I literally laughed out loud--multiple times! The characters were ones that I wished I knew. And, I could certainly relate to them and their trials. Plus, the theme--that a relationship should be based on friendship--is exactly how I feel but didn't know how to express. I wish my guy friends would read this just so that they would understand. Seriously.
Young or old, read this book.
You'll laugh; you'll smile; you'll love it.
I don't know if there is a sequel, but I hope there is! I miss the characters already!
I could not put "The Guy I'm Not Dating" down. I've shared my copy and given several copies to friends--we are all awaiting the next book. Trish Perry's characters and dialogue are believeable and pull the reader into the scenes. I've cheered for Kara and Gabe and nearly strangled that Tiffany--the character you love to hate. Loved all of the secondary characters, but addled Aunt Addie is my favorite. Thanks for a wholesome book with Christian principles--a book that had me nearly falling out of my chair laughing. That's what I like--a message wrapped in laughter! Thanks, Trish, and keep on writing! We need more books like this--books that build up and don't tear down. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
Kara is a personal trainer who's been hurt by men in the past, and has vowed to take a hiatus from dating. Gabe is the owner of the new deli in town. He's gorgeous, a Christian and really interested in Kara. When a road trip puts them together with several wacky chaperones, will it be enough to change Kara's mind about dating?

This is a charming and completely satisfying novel. Sometimes, when I read a book, I shake my head and say to myself, "the character never would have said (or done) that". In this freshman novel by Trish Perry, I rarely thought that. These characters were very in tune with my way of thinking. But that doesn't make the novel predictable or boring. Instead, it makes that characters and situations more credible.
